Map Window

The map window is is used to provide a spacial information about the UAS. It consists of the map interface, node icons (Aircraft and GCS), flight plans and mapping areas.

Tip

The map window can be interacted with in three ways:

  1. Swipe with one figure in the direction you'd like to move the map.

  2. Use two fingers to pinch to zoom in and the opposite to zoom out.

  3. Selecting the Blue Plus icon will open the Flight Plan Menu, which is used to create mapping areas and flight plans.

Navigation

Navigating around the map interface is the same as Google Maps on an Android phone or tablet.

To navigate around the map swipe with one figure in the direction you'd like to move the map. Use two fingers to pinch to zoom in and the opposite to zoom out. The SwiftTab also provides a useful method to locate the ground station or aircraft and center it on the screen. The following animations show how this is done from the Status Window.

To locate your aircraft, simply open the Drawer Menu and press and hold on the aircraft icon. The tablet will then instantly change to display where your aircraft is on the map.

To locate your ground station, simply open the Drawer Menu and press and hold on the ground station icon. The tablet will then move your map to overlook your ground station position.

Downloading Maps for your Mission

Downloading maps is typically done prior to heading out to the field to ensure that the maps are cached on the tablet. This feature allows the user to download the maps for an area of interest. The steps for downloading maps are:

  1. Connect the tablet to a WiFi access point that has internet connectivity, usually your office WiFi
  2. Once connected, press-and-hold a spot on the map followed by dragging a box over the area of interest as shown in the animation below.
  3. This will bring up a menu that will ask what zoom levels you'd like to download. The range of 17-19 is good for most missions.
  4. Keep in mind that the tablet will only cache the map type you currently have loaded. For the example below it's the satellite map layer.
